Maura Freshour

MSW, LICSW

I am passionate about supporting children (ages 3+), teens, and parents through all stages of the parenting journey—from infertility and pregnancy to postpartum, adoption, and beyond. Whether you're experiencing the joys and struggles of parenthood, adjusting to family changes, or seeking support for your child's emotional well-being, I'm here to help.

Maura Freshour is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota. She is also a Registered Play Therapist (RPT). Maura completed a postgraduate certificate in play therapy from Bethel University (2025). She is also trained in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International (2024).

Maura brings extensive experience from both medical and educational settings, including work in elementary schools, emergency departments, pediatric ICUs, NICUs, and with children recovering from brain injuries. This broad clinical background informs her compassionate and developmentally attuned care for families navigating complex emotional and behavioral challenges.

Her approach is warm, collaborative, and attachment-focused. Drawing from her training and specialization in child-centered play therapy, Theraplay®, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and somatic-experiential play therapy. Maura is passionate about growing as a provider and is in a variety of training and supervision opportunities.

When she's not in the therapy room, Maura enjoys volunteering, fishing, spending time with animals, and traveling with her family. Practicing as a child and family therapist is her dream job—but if she weren’t in this field, she’d happily be a lobster fisherwoman.

PARENTING SUPPORT AT EVERY STAGE

Parenting is a journey full of joys, challenges, and transitions. At Fresh Outlook, you'll find compassionate support every step of the way, from the hopeful beginnings to the complexities of pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. I offer a safe and understanding space to explore your experiences and find strength as your family grows.

FAMILY CHALLENGES
I also support families facing challenges like divorce, custody issues, infidelity, grief, and loss. I offer individual parenting counseling, parent-child sessions, and a commitment to understanding your unique family system. We can work together to strengthen your bond with your child, improve communication, and address behaviors, anxiety, and depression.

NAVIGATING THE EMOTIONAL LANDSCAPE OF PREGNANCY & POSTPARTUM

Pregnancy and the postpartum period can bring a mix of emotions, sometimes leading to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) like depression and anxiety. Experiences like infant loss and infertility can intensify these challenges. Even without these specific struggles, the postpartum period can be vulnerable.

FINDING SUPPORT FOR PERINATAL CHALLENGES

At Fresh Outlook, you'll find compassionate support for your perinatal journey. Whether you're navigating infertility, grieving infant loss, or adjusting to postpartum life (including adoption!), I offer a safe space to process your emotions and find strength.

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, and it takes time to sort through profiles and specialties. Fresh Outlook is a specialized practice, which means we’re an excellent fit for many clients - but we may not be the best match for every need.

To support transparency and help you find the right care, here are areas that Maura does not provide specialized services for and typically refers out:

We’re not the best fit for

  • Gender dysphoria as the primary concern

  • We do not offer ABA Therapy.

  • Custody evaluations

Neuro-Psychological testing

Fresh Outlook provides therapy support for clients with diagnoses such as ADHD or autism, but we do not offer formal neuropsychological testing, including IQ testing or academic evaluations.

Medication services

Fresh Outlook does not have a medical doctor, nurse practitioner, or prescribing clinician on staff and therefore does not provide medication prescribing, recommendations, or medication management. We’re happy to coordinate with your care, but leave any conversations or recommendations about medications to the professionals!

If you’re seeking support in one of the areas above, we can often help by recommending trusted providers who specialize in that care.
